Police Raid Prayer Meeting in China
On the morning of February 7, Chinese authorities raided a house church prayer meeting in Suyang City, Jiangus Province, according to a February 8 report from China Aid Association. Police and officials from the Suyang Religious Bureau and the National Security Protection Squad barged into the home of Tan Jianwei without identifying themselves while approximately twenty Christians were praying. The police took pictures and ordered the Christians to write down their names. Those who refused were beaten. Police also searched the home and confiscated Christian books. Tan Jianwei (36), his wife Qin Qing, and Yin Yanling (42) were taken to the police station for interrogation. They were forced under threat of imprisonment and torture, to sign a promise to cease holding religious activities in Tan's home.
Pray that authorities will not succeed in preventing these Christians from meeting together. Ask God to give them boldness of faith so that they will continue to meet together despite opposition (Hebrews 10:23-25). Pray that those who persecute Christians will come to know Christ's love, forgiveness and blessing through the lives of his followers (Romans 12:14, 21).
